Wee Alice went to the vet last week to have her vaccination booster ... my sis was dreading going into the waiting room as she fully expected Alice to start her screaming .... but despite there being several other dogs there, Alice never made a sound!! She sat calmly by my sis and although inquisitive and sniffing the air a lot, she was silent.
However ..... when my sis was taking her out to the car, they met a dog coming in .... and sure enough, Alice started the screaming as loud as ever!
It seems to only be dogs she sees outside that starts this off .... very odd!

or could it be certain types of dog, or perhaps when she's on the lead or being carried, maybe defensive ??

Alice does this whether she is on the lead or not .... and when sis picks her up to try quieten her she just keeps screaming. My sis took Alice to dog training classes, as I said earlier .... Alice just does this at any type of dog, large or small, when ever she sees them outside.
Before sis got Alice, the wee dog had been neglected but had always had the company of other dogs so it seems strange that she behaves like this when she meets other dogs outdoors.
One day, a young dog came over to play when sis and Alice were out on the field .... Alice stood her ground and kept up the racket even though the pup was being friendly and submissive; my sis ignored Alice and walked off .... but Alice stayed exactly where she was, making that terrible noise, until sis eventually returned to put her on the lead and walk her away.
Alice does not snap or growl at other dogs ... she just seems to freeze and kicks off with the noise ... and the looks on peoples and other dogs faces is usually one of astonishment!
A few months ago I took Alice out with me and my dogs .... she was fine until we saw a strange dog in the distance; I had with me a plastic bottle with pebbles in which I shook to try to divert her attention ..... my dogs all jumped out of their skin and immediately sat and looked at me .... Alice never missed a beat!

Benson, if we knew, we would tell Jann so that her sister could rectify little Alice's problem. Only a man could ask a question like that Rolling Eyes
(And I know what his reply will be before he posts it!)

Sorry to hear that Natalie. Julie the manager has been on holiday and isn't back yet, and the re-homing co-ordinator Sarah has had her computer in for repair, so I guess your email is somewhere in the backlog!

I'm positive there would be some way for you to help out. We're always happy to meet new volunteers. Is there anything specifically you'd like to do?

Your best bet might be to call the kennels and speak directly to Sarah. The number is on the website, or just pop up any day between 11am and 3pm

John is quite right Natalie, we can never get enough good volunteers!

I guess your email has been delayed due to Julies holiday and the computer issue that Sarah has at present but could I ask which email address you used to contact us, perhaps that was the problem.

In any case, as John says, if you give the kennels a ring and arrange to call in between 11am and 3pm most days Sarah will be a able to have chat with you and sort something out.

thanks for your interest, dont give up on a good cause, we could do with some sane folk! Very Happy

I'll check out the calender and make sure i'm not down to work or that it clashes with any Majorette competitions that Amelia has.
Hopefully i'll be able to come, one of those rosettes is coming home with me ( whether i win or not!!) Twisted Evil

Hi Natalie

I am at the kennels on Tuesday, don't worry we won't let you get lost. Its easier to explain once you are there because from the main road we can point which way to go (my kind of directions anyway!)

See you Tuesday, Sarah
